Tourist arrivals to the island nation for the first four days of May crossed the 20,000 mark, pushing cumulative arrivals for the year to date past the 900,000 milestone.

From 1–4 May, Sri Lanka welcomed a total of 20,522 international visitors, bringing the year-to-date arrivals to 917,406.

The daily arrival average has reduced to 5,505, which is normal given the start of the off-peak season.

However, when compared with the daily arrivals for May in 2024 and 2023, the figures for 2025 are considerably higher.

India continues to rank as the largest tourist traffic generator for Sri Lanka, accounting for 32.1 percent of total arrivals. In second place is the United Kingdom, contributing 7.9 percent of international visitors.

China has moved up to third, accounting for 7.1 percent of arrivals.

Meanwhile, the Russian Federation fell to seventh position, with only 3.9 percent of the arrivals.

Sri Lanka aims to attract three million visitors and generate US$ 5 billion in revenue in 2025.
