Japan-supported E-Gate system installation accelerated at ports, airports

A committee meeting was held at the Ports, Shipping and Civil Aviation Ministry recently to expedite the installation of Electronic Gate (E-Gate) systems at Sri Lanka’s main ports and airports under a project supported by the Japanese Government.

The meeting was attended by Ports and Civil Aviation Deputy Minister Janitha Ruwan Kodithuwakku, Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Deputy Minister Sunil Watagala, Ministry Secretary Senior Professor Kapila C. Perera, Japan’s Acting Mission Head Naoki Kamoshida, IOM Sri Lanka Chief of Mission Kristine Parco, as well as representatives from the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Airport and Aviation Services, Sri Lanka Customs and the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

Participants held discussions on the current progress of the E-Gate installation project and identified measures to fast-track its implementation. They also reviewed potential challenges and emphasised the importance of adapting the system to Sri Lanka’s specific operational context.

The meeting highlighted a strong commitment from all stakeholders to ensure that the project is completed efficiently and effectively shortly, enhancing security and passenger processing capabilities at key entry points to the country.
