India’s fast-growing low-cost carrier, Akasa Air, is considering launching flights to Sri Lanka as part of its push into international markets. The airline’s CEO, Vinay Dube recently signaled interest in expanding services to regional destinations such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal and the Maldives.

Since its launch in August 2022, Akasa Air has rapidly built a fleet of 27 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, flying to 28 destinations across India. With plans to expand to 72 aircraft within five years, the airline is eyeing medium-haul international routes to strengthen its presence.

While no official timeline or announcement has been made yet for flights to Sri Lanka, such a move could significantly boost connectivity between the two countries.
