President Anura Kumara Disanayake, during his official visit to Germany, held a key meeting on June 13 with representatives from leading Tourism and Travel Industry Associations and outbound tour operators at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Berlin.

The President outlined Sri Lanka’s renewed focus on sustainable tourism, emphasizing recent infrastructure improvements, active international promotion campaigns, and enhanced visitor safety measures. He noted that these initiatives aim to position Sri Lanka as a leading destination for responsible tourism, while preserving its cultural and environmental heritage.

Key areas highlighted included human resource development, the growth of eco- and cultural tourism experiences, and robust environmental protection efforts. President Disanayake also extended an open invitation to German investors to explore emerging opportunities in Sri Lanka’s expanding tourism sector.

Germany remains a vital source market for Sri Lanka, ranking fourth in tourist arrivals. In 2024, approximately 136,000 German tourists visited the island, with over 69,000 recorded by the end of May 2025.

Joining the President at the meeting were Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism Vjitha Herath, Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Germany Ms. Varuni Muthukumarana, and other senior officials.

The Berlin meeting marks a significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation and attracting quality investments into Sri Lanka’s growing tourism economy.
