SLITHM Students Shine at Prestigious Culinary Competitions

The Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM), the apex government institution for hospitality education in the country, continues to reaffirm its commitment to producing highly skilled and industry-ready professionals for Sri Lanka’s tourism and hospitality sector.

A proud moment was recently marked when SLITHM students demonstrated their talent and professionalism by participating in two of the most prestigious culinary competitions in the country – the Chef Guild Competition and the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Competition, held from June 12 to 14 at the BMICH.

Our students delivered an exceptional performance, with several accolades earned across both culinary and food & beverage categories. Notably, SLITHM emerged victorious in the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Competition, showcasing the outstanding culinary expertise of our young professionals.

In recognition of these achievements, a felicitation ceremony was held at the SLITHM Colombo School premises. The event was graced by the presence of Hon. Prof. Ruwan Ranasinghe, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Mr. Dheera Hettiarachchi, Chairman of SLITHM, Mr. C. Addarawatta,Director General (Acting) and several other distinguished dignitaries and industry stakeholders.

During the event, Hon. Prof. Ranasinghe congratulated the students and emphasized the importance of such platforms in enhancing professional exposure and skills. He also highlighted that nurturing young talent through national-level competitions is vital for uplifting Sri Lanka’s tourism industry to the global stage.

SLITHM remains dedicated to equipping students with practical experience, international exposure, and industry-aligned training  laying a strong foundation for the future leaders of hospitality and tourism in Sri Lanka.
