Belavia Airlines, the national carrier of the Republic of Belarus, has announced plans to launch seasonal flights connecting Belarus and Sri Lanka, opening new avenues for tourism and trade between the two nations.

As part of this initiative, a high-level delegation from Belavia Airlines paid a courtesy visit to the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka (CAASL) on 05 August 2025. The meeting highlighted the airline’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and creating greater opportunities for travelers seeking new destinations.

Industry experts believe that the introduction of direct seasonal flights between Minsk and Colombo will play a vital role in boosting Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, especially by attracting tourists from Eastern Europe. Sri Lanka, with its pristine beaches, cultural heritage sites, and year-round tropical climate, has become an increasingly attractive long-haul destination for European travelers.

Belavia Airlines has been steadily expanding its international network, and the move to connect Belarus with Sri Lanka underscores the airline’s strategy of tapping into emerging tourism markets. The seasonal flight operations are expected to coincide with Sri Lanka’s peak travel period, providing convenient and efficient travel options for both leisure and business travelers.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka has welcomed the initiative, noting that enhanced air connectivity between Belarus and Sri Lanka will not only boost tourist arrivals but also strengthen diplomatic and economic relations.

With this development, Sri Lanka continues to establish itself as a premier destination in Asia, attracting more direct air links that support the government’s vision of achieving 3 million tourist arrivals by 2026.
