The team representing the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM) Rathnapura secured first place at the Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Junior Competition 2026 semi-final, which brought together 21 teams from seven SLITHM hotel schools to showcase their culinary skills and creativity.

M. A. S. N. Manathunga and E. K. P. Nayanamali Jayawardhana from SLITHM Rathnapura emerged as the winners, while B. M. Dahami and G. K. Amaneth from SLITHM Bandarawela secured second place.

C. P. K. B. Godakanda and Vihanga Sithum from SLITHM Kandy finished in third place. W. M. P. V. Wanninayake and R. M. N. Kalhara from SLITHM Kurunegala secured fourth place, while M. L. Janidu Dilsara and A. A. S. Hansani from SLITHM Rathnapura finished fifth.

The five teams were selected to advance to the Grand Finale following the semi-final competition, which highlighted the culinary abilities, creativity and professional potential of students pursuing careers in Sri Lanka’s hospitality industry.

Launched in 2025 as an extension of the established Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Competition, the junior competition provides a platform for hospitality students to demonstrate their cooking skills, develop their creativity and gain valuable experience as they prepare for careers in the culinary sector.

The competition also reflects the importance of developing young talent to support the continued growth of Sri Lanka’s hospitality and tourism industries. By providing opportunities for students to demonstrate their abilities in a competitive environment, the initiative aims to encourage the next generation of culinary professionals.

With five teams progressing to the Grand Finale, the competition will continue to recognise emerging culinary talent from SLITHM’s hotel schools.
