Former Pakistan cricket captain and newly appointed brand ambassador for Softlogic Life, Wasim Akram, has described Sri Lanka as a destination worthy of being ranked as the world’s top holiday spot. Speaking at a Softlogic Life investor forum held in Colombo this past Tuesday, the cricket legend shared his profound admiration for the island, citing its natural beauty and his decades-long personal connection with the country.
Despite having traveled extensively to every corner of the globe during his illustrious career, Akram highlighted that Sri Lanka remains one of his most cherished destinations. His recent trip to the island, which included filming a new television commercial for Softlogic Life, provided him with a fresh opportunity to reconnect with some of the country’s most scenic regions. During the production, he was particularly struck by the diverse landscapes found in the historic city of Galle and the lush, mist-covered central highlands.
Reflecting on his journey, Akram shared that his affinity for the island began when he first visited as a teenager in 1985. Over the last four decades, he has returned repeatedly as a professional cricketer, a cricket commentator, and a tourist. Akram expressed genuine surprise that Sri Lanka is not already universally recognized as a premier global tourism leader, stating that its rivers, coastlines, and landscapes are truly world-class. Looking toward the future, the icon confirmed his intent to keep visiting regularly, with specific plans to explore the untapped beauty of the country’s East Coast.
