The Ambassador of Georgia to Sri Lanka, based in New Delhi, Vakhtang Jaoshvili, on Thursday (05) pledged to contribute towards strengthening tourism ties between Georgia and Sri Lanka during a meeting with Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickramaratne at the Parliament premises.
The meeting focused on further enhancing bilateral relations between the two countries, with particular attention to cooperation in tourism, agriculture, telecommunications, trade and investment. Secretary General of Parliament Kushani Rohanadeera was also present.
Both sides recalled that Sri Lanka and Georgia marked 25 years of diplomatic relations in 2023, underscoring the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
Speaker Wickramaratne noted that Sri Lanka’s economy was now showing signs of stability and said the country offered attractive opportunities for foreign investment. He invited Georgian investors to explore investment prospects in Sri Lanka, while also highlighting the island’s cultural diversity and renowned hospitality. The Speaker encouraged tourists from Georgia to visit Sri Lanka and experience its rich heritage and natural attractions.
In response, Ambassador Jaoshvili reaffirmed his commitment to promoting tourism between the two countries and expressed interest in expanding educational cooperation, including opportunities for Sri Lankan students to pursue higher education in Georgia.
The Speaker also said he looked forward to the establishment of the Sri Lanka-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Association in the Tenth Parliament in the near future, with a view to further strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
