Sri Lanka’s Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) was filled with excitement and anticipation on the 25th of October, 2023, as it welcomed the first charter flight of a remarkable series operated by Lot Polish Airlines. This inaugural flight embarked from the Czech Republic, bringing with it 252 international tourists eager to explore the captivating beauty of Sri Lanka.

The charter flight operations are set to continue until the 26th of March 2024, offering a prolonged opportunity for international visitors to experience the island’s diverse offerings. These charter flights are a result of a collaborative effort between several key players, including Cedok of the Czech Republic, Sri Lanka Tourism, and Jetwing Travels. Hayleys Aviation, acting as the General Sales Agent (GSA) for Lot Polish Airlines, played a pivotal role in making this venture a reality.

The arrival of the first flight was nothing short of spectacular, as it received a traditional water salute, a gesture of warm welcome that echoed the hospitality of Sri Lanka. Passengers were further treated to a traditional dance performance, immersing them in the rich cultural tapestry of the island. Each tourist was also presented with special Ceylon Tea gifts, courtesy of the Sri Lanka Tea Board, ensuring a taste of Sri Lanka’s world-renowned tea.

In an effort to amplify awareness of Sri Lanka as a prime travel destination in Eastern Europe, the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau is launching a joint promotional campaign with Cedok. This campaign, supported by Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka Limited, Jetwing Travels, and Hayleys Aviation, seeks to expand the horizons of destination awareness among Eastern European markets.

The soft inauguration ceremony at BIA was graced by esteemed individuals, including Dr. Sumith de Silva, Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications at AASL, Mr. Charith Nalaka, Deputy General Manager at Jetwing Travels, Mr. Jagath Perera and Ms. Inoka Gayathri, Market Officers from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau, and Mr. Sasidharan Kumarasamy, Assistant Manager at Hayleys Aviation.

This inaugural charter flight marks the beginning of an exciting journey that not only connects nations but also celebrates the boundless beauty and cultural richness of Sri Lanka. As Lot Polish Airlines continues to operate charter flights, Sri Lanka eagerly welcomes visitors to explore the splendors of this enchanting island nation.
