Over 30, 000 tourist arrivals in first six days of August

During the first six days of August, Sri Lanka welcomed 30, 303 tourists, almost certainly boosting the cumulative arrivals over the 800, 000 milestone so far this year with the arrivals in August 7 and 8.

According to the data released by Sri Lanka Development Authority (SLTDA), the cumulative arrivals for the period from January 1 to August 6 stood at 798, 216.

For the entirety of 2022, Sri Lanka welcomed only 719, 978 visitors. The year was marked by political and economic instability, which made a number of countries issuing travel advisories against visiting Sri Lanka.

In June, Sri Lanka received the highest monthly tourist arrivals of 143, 039 so far for this year. India was the biggest contributor in terms of arrivals in the first six days of August with 4, 608 visitors, which accounted for 15 percent of the total arrivals.

United Kingdom ranked second with 4, 254 tourists, accounting for 14 percent of the total arrivals.
China, was the third biggest source market during the period, as it accounted for 7 percent or 2, 246 arrivals.
