Sri Lanka earns US$219mn from 143,000 tourist in July 2023

Sri Lanka has earned 219 million US dollars from 143,039 tourists who visited the country in July 2023, up from 85 million US dollars last year, official data shows.

In the first six months of the year 1,094 million dollars were earned from tourists up from 764.6 million dollars last year when the country suffered monetary instability.

Sri Lanka has welcomed 767,913 tourists up to July this year, up 67.4 percent from last year.

In July 23,461 visitors came from India (16.4 percent), 17,482 from the UK (12.2 pct), 10,062 from China (7.0-pct), 8,013 from Germany (6.0 percent), 8,009 from Russia (6.0 pct) and 7,432 from France.
